Kunstwerk Kolderveen is a visual arts platform in rural Drenthe that brings critical contemporary art into a northern, non-urban context, connecting local life with urgent social and geopolitical questions.

Artist in Residency / AiR

Kunstwerk Kolderveen runs curated artistic research residencies that support artists in developing and sharing work-in-progress through close engagement with the local community and landscape. With a focus on collaboration, continuity, and long-term regional investment, the programme connects artistic practice to local knowledge while expanding networks and visibility for contemporary art in the wider region.

Exhibitions

The exhibition programme at Kunstwerk Kolderveen creates space for critical contemporary art to unfold within everyday rural life, using local realities as a lens on broader social, ecological, and geopolitical conditions. Through long-term, thematically connected exhibitions, we explore how global forces take material, sensory, and relational form in landscapes, bodies, and communities often perceived as peripheral. Our aim is to foster sustained reflection and dialogue on interdependence; between humans and non-humans, politics and ecology, visibility and normalisation; grounded in the specific context of Drenthe while resonating far beyond it.

Events

Alongside the exhibitions, Kunstwerk Kolderveen runs an accessible programme of seminars and events that combine professional development, education, and networking for regional artists, curators, and art audiences. Through seminars, workshops, and school education programmes tailored to each exhibition, we create hands-on encounters that support artistic practice, knowledge exchange, and long-term engagement with contemporary art.
